Folks have been asking me for a source of ultrasound images they can use to help interpret structures and events during their mare's estrous cycle. Well here it is Ultrasound Images of the Estrous Cycle Volume 1: The Follicular Phase. The first in a series of e-books that I know will be an invaluable tool to support your equine reproduction activities now and in the future.

This 101 page e-book is chalked full of ultrasound images I've collected over the years from actual clinical cases. These images will help you learn to better recognize "normal" follicular structures across a wide range of variation that can occur during the follicular phase of your mare's cycle.

The chapters are organized to give you a chronological tour of potential follicular structures that can develop on your mare's ovaries from the earliest insignificant follicles, through follicular development during estrus and finally culminating with ovulation.

Each image is clearly labeled and I've provided a caption that'll give you some background information about the case it was taken from. I've even included a chapter on unusual or abnormal follicular structures because you'll certainly see some of them from time-to-time as well.

In the appendix you'll find a form I use to record my findings during routine reproductive examinations in mares. I filled in some exam findings on one of the forms to illustrate how I use it. You're welcome to print the blank form and make copies for you own use.
